Gerry Glasco and the Texas Tech softball team are in the midst of one of the most impressive things I’ve seen in a long time. Last season, the Red Raiders weren’t really that impressive. Thus a bit of a coaching change and some roster investments and all of a sudden we’re now able to witness one of the most impressive seasons in Texas Tech softball history.
The Red Raiders have made it to Oklahoma City and the 2025 Women’s College World Series. This is uncharted territory for the Texas Tech softball program. This has literally never happened before for TTU and the fact that it is happening now is something that absolutely should be celebrated and enjoyed.
Folks, we’re talking about a team that, prior to this season, had never made it to a Super Regional. This is a team that won a conference championship for the first time this year and the Red Raiders did it twice! Shoutout to being able to win the conference tournament AND also the regular season conference championship.
This year has been absolutely incredible and full of accolades for the Red Raiders. Now let’s take a look at how Texas Tech made it to Oklahoma City.
2025 Women’s College World Series team profile: How did the Texas Tech Red Raiders make it to Oklahoma City?
The start of the season was interesting for Texas Tech as the Red Raiders suffered an early season loss against the Mississippi State Bulldogs, but then found a groove and started winning in a hurry.
The Red Raiders faced some challenging early opponents, such as the Texas Longhorns (a team they lost to back in February), but that was a decent opportunity to get a feel for what it’s like to face some of the most talented teams in college softball.
After back-to-back losses against the likes of North Texas and Idaho State, the Red Raiders started getting a few things figured out. They split a couple games against the Texas A&M Aggies, took a series away from Oklahoma State, and then bulldozed through the Big 12.
The Red Raiders managed to go 20-4 in Big 12 play and dominated just about everyone in the conference. They then beat up on the Baylor Bears, Arizona State Sun Devils, and Arizona Wildcats to sweep through the Big 12 tournament and claim the conference crown (for the second time this season).
Texas Tech hosted a regional and got the opportunity to get a little bit of revenge against the Mississippi State Bulldogs and followed that up by taking two games away from the Florida State Seminoles in the Tallahassee Super Regional.
