Joey McGuire and the Texas Tech Red Raiders aren’t having any issues on the recruiting trail right now. It seems like no matter which way you turn, the Texas Tech football team is picking up another solid recruit these days. And of course Chase Campbell is the most recent example.
We’re talking about a 4-star wide receiver that received offers from a number of SEC teams (and eight other Big 12 teams) and still he ended up committing to come play college football in Lubbock. That, my friends, is a very, very good thing to have happen.
It’s so incredibly refreshing to see Texas Tech have such success in getting commitments and the Red Raiders have been the topic of a ton of online chatter as a result of said aforementioned success.
Let’s take a look at how Texas Tech’s recruiting class looks right now with Campbell on board:
Texas Tech picks up its second wide receiver of the 2026 class with Chase Campbell’s commitment to the Red Raiders
Right now, in the Texas Tech 2026 recruiting class, a grand total of 19 prospective players are committed to play for the Texas Tech football team. Of that grouping, 16 (including Chase Campbell) are from the state of Texas. The other three players come from Georgia, Oklahoma, and Tennessee.
McGuire and his coaching staff have truly prioritized going out and getting some of the best players in the state of Texas. This really, truly seems to be an area of emphasis for the former high school football coach, which makes sense.
On top of that, there’s another huge point of emphasis for Texas Tech high school recruiting: defense. Though Texas Tech has historically been known for scoring points at will (and often to the detriment of defensive efforts), a notable majority of the 2026 recruiting class has been comprised of defensive talent.
There are currently 12 players in the 2026 class for Texas Tech that will be playing on the defensive side of the ball. Four on the defensive line, a couple of linebackers, and then six defensive backs. Over on offense, you’ve got two wide receivers, three offensive linemen, one running back, and one quarterback.
