Matt Campbell and the Iowa State Cyclones are looking to go out and get another win in the early part of the season. They handled business early on in Week 0 over in Ireland. Now they’re looking to get a win in Ames, Iowa for the first time this season.

And that should certainly be doable. The No. 22 ranked Cyclones are welcoming the South Dakota Coyotes from the FCS to town for this matchup.

Here’s what you need to keep up with Iowa State vs. South Dakota:

How to watch this Big 12 football game?

  • Who: South Dakota Coyotes (0-0) vs. No. 22 Iowa State Cyclones (1-0 overall, 1-0 Big 12)
  • Where: Ames, Iowa
  • When: Saturday, August 30 at 2:30 p.m.
  • Venue: Jack Trice Stadium
  • TV Channel: FOX
  • Live stream: FOX Sports

How does this impact the Big 12?

The biggest thing that could come from this would be a stunning sort of loss for the Iowa State Cyclones. That’s the only sort of thing that could happen in this game that would impact the Big 12 in any sort of meaningful way.

There’s just not much at stake here. Iowa State is a pretty polished, solid team. South Dakota is also pretty polished, but the Coyotes are an FCS bunch. And there’s a bit of a talent gap there. That said, if the South Dakota Coyotes were able to win this game, that would be a pretty significant sort of upset.

Why should Texas Tech fans care about this game?

The Iowa State Cyclones are the best team in the Big 12 at the moment. They’re leading the conference and could conceivably make it to the Big 12 championship game. After beating the Kansas State Wildcats in Week 0, it really feels like Matt Campbell and the Cyclones have the best path to making it to the conference championship game.

Thankfully, the Red Raiders avoid the Cyclones during the regular season. But that doesn’t mean that they won’t meet up at some point. Should Texas Tech get a shot at playing in the Big 12 championship game, it could conceivably be against the Cyclones.
