While the No. 17 Kansas State Wildcats and the No. 22 Iowa State Cyclones get the season started off on the other side of the Atlantic Ocean, we’ve got another Big 12 team kicking off the season at home. The Kansas Jayhawks are welcoming the Fresno State Bulldogs to town to get the 2025 season underway.

And yeah, I know this isn’t a Texas Tech football game, but this is a game that should be of interest for Texas Tech fans. At least in a peripheral sort of way. Just keep an eye on what’s going on. If for no other reason, because it’s a college football game and the season is starting up and you should watch college football during college football season.

But also, and a bit more importantly, the Jayhawks are an intriguing team. I don’t know exactly how good they can be this season, but they might put up a unique challenge for Joey McGuire and the Red Raiders later this year.

So maybe let’s try to get a closer look at a Big 12 team that might cause headaches for Texas Tech fans later?

Ready to watch the Jayhawks and Bulldogs? Here’s what you need to know:

  • Who: Kansas Jayhawks vs. Fresno State Bulldogs
  • Where: Lawrence, Kansas
  • Venue: David Booth Kansas Memorial Stadium
  • TV Channel: FOX
  • Live stream: FOX Sports

I’m intrigued by this one and it’s really all boiling down to my general curiosity about whether or not Lance Leipold is able to continue to sustain success for the Jayhawks. The man is a phenomenal coach who has won at every level and it’s been fascinating watching him build a program that has basically been regarded as somewhere that’s impossible to win at.

And he’s been able to win there! It’s been fun to watch. Except when he’s tried causing headaches for Texas Tech, that is. And that could happen again later this season.
