Tonight, fans in Lubbock have one final opportunity to see the Texas Tech basketball team in action at United Supermarkets Arena in 2024-2025. The opponent will be the Colorado Buffaloes in what might be considered a potential trap game.
Coming off a huge win at Kansas on Saturday, only the second win ever in Lawrence for the program, the Red Raiders now face a different challenge. Tech must show its maturity and avoid playing down to the level of its opponent.
Colorado is a poor team. There is no way to sugarcoat it. The Buffs have a Big 12 record of just 2-15 which is the worst mark in the conference.
What's more, Colorado is yet to win a Big 12 road game. In fact, they have just one win outside of Boulder this season. However, that win was a stunning 73-72 upset of then-No. 2 UCONN in Maui, Hawaii, back in November.
Still, Colorado never really capitalized on that huge win. And as the season has unfolded, they have found life in their new conference to be more than challenging.
The Buffaloes are 14th in the conference in scoring at just 69.7 points per game. They have just two players averaging in double figures in the scoring column, senior guard Julian Hammond III (12.4 p.p.g) and senior forward Andrej Jakimovski (10.0 p.p.g.).
What's more, Colorado is a poor defensive team. They sit at 13th in the Big 12 in points allowed by giving up 71.6 per game.
Additionally, Colorado is in the bottom four of the Big 12 in the following statistical categories: scoring margin (-1.97 p.p.g.), 3-point field goal percentage (31.2%), turnover margin (-3.52, last in the Big 12), assist/turnover ratio (0.98), offensive rebounds per game (9.3), and 3-point field goals made (6.6 per game).
That's why the ESPN.com matchup predictor gives Texas Tech a 93.4% chance of coming out on top in this matchup.
Still, the Red Raiders have played well enough this season to make every game matter because Tech is playing for a high seed in the NCAA Tournament. So, even though the opponent tonight is not one that brings a ton of juice into the matchup, fans across Raiderland will be tuning in to catch all the action. Therefore, let's look at all the information fans need to know for this final Big 12 home game.
