Saturday, the Texas Tech football team will face what could be its toughest test of the season when it travels to take on No. 10 Iowa State. Of course, the Red Raiders are looking to avoid a three-game losing streak after suffering losses to Baylor and TCU since having an open week after beating Arizona.

Meanwhile, Iowa State will be coming off of its own open week. That means the Cyclones will have quite the advantage in terms of health and preparation.

ISU enters the game 7-0. However, they haven't played the toughest schedule imaginable thus far. In fact, they have faced only one ranked team. Iowa was ranked 21st when they fell to the Cyclones 20-19 way back on September 7th. Now, the Hawkeyes are unranked and sitting at 5-3 on the season just like the Red Raiders.

So let's take a look at everything Texas Tech fans need to know ahead of this week's game. We'll start with the broadcast information.

  • Texas Tech will look to knock off a top-10 opponent on the road for the first time since 2011 when the Red Raiders beat No. 3 Oklahoma 41-38.
  • The month of November has been advantageous for the Red Raiders under Joey McGuire, who is a combined 6-2 in the month during his first two seasons. Texas Tech is 2-1 all-time in road games at Iowa State during the month of November as the Red Raiders won the last meeting in Ames amid frigid conditions in 2022.
  • Texas Tech will be making back-to-back trips to Ames for the first time in the series as the Red Raiders are 5-5 all-time as the road team.
  • Of the 19 previous meetings between the two schools, only five have been determined by one possession or less as the Red Raiders are a perfect 5-0 in those games with wins in 1998, 2013, 2014, 2021, and 2022. Prior to the last two games in the series in 2021-22, each of the previous six contests had been decided by nine points or more.
  • Saturday’s game in Ames will mark only the 12th time in program history that the Red Raiders have played a game north of the state of Oklahoma during the month of November. Traditionally, Texas Tech has played games against in-state rivals with additional trips to the states of Oklahoma and Arkansas (Southwest Conference era) during the final month of the regular season.
  • Texas Tech is 5-6 all-time in games played north of Oklahoma during November with wins in each of their last three occurrences at West Virginia in 2019, Iowa State in 2022 and Kansas last season. Texas Tech is 2-1 all-time in November road games in Ames with victories in 2014 and 2022 and its lone loss in 2016.
  • Texas Tech will be facing a top-25 foe for the first time this season on Saturday as Iowa State enters this week ranked as high as No. 10 in the polls. The Red Raiders are 3-6 against ranked opponents under Joey McGuire, which includes a 1-5 mark in road games. Texas Tech’s lone road win came at No. 16 Kansas a year ago as the Red Raiders used a strong defensive performance for a 16-13 victory. Texas Tech is 0-3 against top 10 teams thus far under McGuire.
