How to watch Texas Tech vs. Wyoming: Game notes, odds, and more
Tonight, the Texas Tech basketball team faces Wyoming at United Supermarkets Arena. This is a game that came about because of a coaching move that the Red Raiders made in the offseason.
When Grant McCasland hired former Wyoming head coach Jeff Linder away from the Cowboys to join McCasland's coaching staff in Lubbock, there was a substantial contract buyout that Texas Tech was responsible for paying. As part of a negotiated agreement with Wyoming, Tech was allowed to pay only a portion of Linder's buyout in exchange for paying Wyoming to come to Lubbock for games this season and next.
Over four seasons with the Cowboys, Linder went 63-59 overall. Prior to that, he had an 80-50 record in four seasons as the head coach at Northern Colorado.
In 2022, he led Wyoming to the NCAA Tournament as part of a 25-9 season. Now, leading the Cowboys is a coach with one of the best names in college sports, Sundance Wicks.
A former assistant at Wyoming under Linder, he was the head coach at Green Bay last season. This year, he's got his team off to a 2-0 start thanks to double-digit wins over Concordia-St. Paul and Tennessee State.
This will be the best team the Red Raiders have played so far. The Cowboys are a competitive team in a strong Mountain West Conference.
Tonight, Tech will need to slow down senior guard Obi Agbim, Wyoming's leading scorer on the season. He's averaging 24.5 points and 4.5 assits per game while shooting 65.5% from the floor thu far.
