The season is finally here, folks. Texas Tech football is right around the corner. Starting this Saturday, we’ll be right in it as we get to watch what could be one of the most intriguing seasons that the Texas Tech football program has been a part of in quite some time.

And it’s not just fans that are looking forward to this season as something potentially special for Joey McGuire and the Red Raiders. McGuire himself, the head coach of the Texas Tech football team, seems to be looking at this season through a lens of something that could be pretty dang fun.

On Monday, McGuire (and a couple of his assistant coaches) met with media members to talk about the upcoming start to the 2025 season and the season opener for the Red Raiders against Arkansas-Pine Bluff.

McGuire opened the press conference by noting how thrilled he was to get this season started.

Texas Tech head coach Joey McGuire has “never been more excited about a season” than he is now heading into 2025

“It’s great to see everybody,” McGuire noted. “You’ve heard me say it in the last month, I’ve never been more excited about a season.”

I mean, bold statement. Exciting statement, but definitely something of a bold one.

Especially from the head coach of a high profile college football program that has been around football at multiple levels for quite some time. And as McGuire explains, there are a few different reasons for him feeling this excited. And if you think some of it has to do with the roster that has been assembled, you’d be right.

“For a lot of reasons, roster talent, but more than anything, just the men that we’ve brought into this building and the growth of the guys returning and all the new guys,” Texas Tech’s head coach explained.

Again, there’s no way that McGuire is the only member of this Texas Tech team that is looking forward to this season in this way. And he’s definitely not alone when you start asking around and including fans and boosters. Plenty of people are looking forward to what this season could be. And for good reason.

On Saturday, at 6:30 p.m., we'll see the Red Raiders face off against the Arkansas-Pine Bluff Golden Lions. And we'll start to see just how special this season could theoretically be.
