I don’t think we can say enough about how impressive Behren Morton was in Texas Tech’s week 2 win over the Kent State Golden Flashes. The starting quarterback for the Red Raiders, who has dealt with a number of injuries all throughout his career, navigated getting dinged up in TTU’s week 1 win over Arkansas-Pine Bluff without any significant issue.

And it sure sounds like the head coach of the Texas Tech football team was pretty happy to see his quarterback performing at such a high level as he dealt with that injury.

Just one week after getting hurt against the Golden Lions, Morton effortlessly completed 18 of 26 pass attempts for a total of 258 yards. Oh, and he threw three touchdowns in the process. Morton also happened to pick up four yards on a carry.

So yeah, he was playing pretty well for a guy who got hurt last week. And thankfully, that injury didn’t seem to be too bad.

Joey McGuire seemed impressed by the way Behren Morton was prepped for Texas Tech’s dominant win over Kent State

“One of the biggest things was Behren,” McGuire said in his postgame press conference. “As the week went on, and like we said, I thought our training staff did an absolutely incredible job getting him ready.”

I think the stats from this 62-14 home win over Kent State would confirm that without any real issues.

“It was all muscle issues and you know, as you guys know, if you’ve got a really bad bruise, the farther away from that contact, the better you feel,” Texas Tech’s head coach explained.

I think we can all agree that it’s such a good thing that Morton was able to get out on the field and play. And I think we can also all agree that it’s good that he was only having to deal with a “really bad bruise.” That feels like an encouraging thing.

“I thought he looked great, it was really important to keep him in the rhythm that he’s in,” McGuire said.

The Red Raiders are looking to head into Salt Lake City and the matchup against the Utah Utes with an unblemished record. It looks like they can do that. And they might be able to continue playing at a high level with Morton healthy. That matters.
