Two weeks in and Texas Tech Red Raider fans have absolutely made their presence known during the 2025 college football season. Newer members of the Texas Tech football team have commented on it, Joey McGuire himself has commented on it. It’s evident. It’s clear. Texas Tech fans are making a difference on the game day atmosphere in Lubbock this season.

It was definitely the case in Texas Tech’s week 1 dominant win. It was the case again as the Red Raiders crushed Kent State in week 2.

And McGuire was definitely clear about how important having a sold out stadium was for the Red Raiders.

“I thought the crowd was incredible once again,” McGuire said during a press conference. “The energy was awesome."

Texas Tech head coach Joey McGuire was grateful for the way Red Raider fans showed up during the dominant win over Kent State

Two sold out crowds to start the season is a pretty important thing to note. On top of that, it’s also great to see the members of the Texas Tech football team responding to that fan support in such a positive (and grateful) way.

And it shouldn’t shock anyone that the head coach of the Red Raiders would like to see fans supporting his team like that again this week.

“We need it again this week, we need a packed Jones AT&T,” McGuire explained. “This is going to be a really good game. I can’t tell you enough how much our players appreciate what’s going on in the stands and getting behind the team.”

Texas Tech fans are passionate people and they’re creating an atmosphere that makes it hard for opposing teams. If that can continue in the various different home games that the Red Raiders have up ahead on the schedule, it could certainly help Texas Tech’s chances of winning down the stretch.

“This is going to be a really good game, this is going to be a big test,” McGuire said.

I don’t know if I fully agree with that from an objective standpoint. Oregon State is 0-2 on the season so far and they haven’t looked all that impressive. But, I appreciate McGuire taking the Beavers seriously and not overlooking a team that is looking to get a win to get this season back on track.

“They’re a very physical team with a big quarterback, really good receiver, good running back,” McGuire explained. “You know, it’s going to be a good game so we need everybody there.”

It would be great to see Texas Tech fans continuing to support the Red Raiders by filling the stadium once more and creating an environment that makes it just about impossible for visiting teams. I can’t blame McGuire for asking for that on a weekly basis.
