If you find yourself asking what makes this Indiana Hoosiers team the No. 1 seed in the College Football Playoff, there’s a few different places to start.
One, they’re unbeaten. 13-0. They simply took care of business against a number of really impressive teams. Two, they have the Heisman Trophy winner. Fernando Mendoza has played steadily impressive football all season long. Three, this defense is one of the best in scoring defense. Truly a remarkable group on that side of the ball.
And again, they’re unbeaten. They’ve looked so good. And Indiana could be a real problem for Texas Tech if the Red Raiders and Hoosiers both win their quarterfinals matchups.
Here’s what Texas Tech fans need to know about the Indiana Hoosiers as they compete in the College Football Playoff
A few basics on Indiana as the Hoosiers get set to compete in the College Football Playoff against the Alabama Crimson Tide in the Rose Bowl.
- Head coach: Curt Cignetti
- Conference: Big Ten
- Location: Bloomington, Indiana
- Venue: Memorial Stadium
- Record: 13-0 overall, 9-0 Big Ten
The Hoosiers have been remarkable all season long. The No. 1 team in the country, the No. 1 seed in the College Football Playoff, they’ve got the Heisman Trophy winner, and they’re so dang dangerous on both sides of the ball.
Indiana is flat out good and could be a problem for the Red Raiders in the Peach Bowl if Texas Tech takes care of business against the Oregon Ducks in the Orange Bowl and the Hoosiers manage to beat the Alabama Crimson Tide in the Rose Bowl.
Both Indiana and Texas Tech are experiencing historic seasons that have been full of breakthroughs, but the Hoosiers have received a ton of attention for all they’ve accomplished this year. That includes a 63-10 win over then No. 9 Illinois, a 30-20 road win over then No. 3 Oregon, a stunning win over a weird Penn State team, and then a 13-10 Big Ten title win over Ohio State.
That’s a really impressive resume! That’s something that Indiana football fans should absolutely brag about. That’s solid! And it proves that the Hoosiers could be a problem for the Red Raiders if we see both teams win their respective quarterfinals matchups.
