After an incredibly unsuccessful trip up to Fort Worth that resulted in an agonizing and horrible series sweep against the TCU Horned Frogs, Tim Tadlock and the Texas Tech Red Raiders need to find a way to get a win and rebuild some momentum.
The Red Raiders managed to strand a total of 32 baserunners against the Horned Frogs. This team has a 7.53 ERA. Texas Tech is in a rough spot. And while the batters are able to hit .358 as a team, there’s a complete and total imbalance on this team.
So, how will the Red Raiders respond? Can Texas Tech get back into the win column and send the Abilene Christian Wildcats back to Abilene with a loss?
Texas Tech vs ACU stat preview: The numbers show just how much Texas Tech needs a win against Abilene Christian
So much of Texas Tech’s season has been defined by how the Red Raiders are a team of the extremes. They have the best offense in the Big 12, but the Red Raiders have the worst pitching staff in the conference. If the bats go cold, everything falls apart.
Texas Tech is 14-1 when the Red Raiders manage to score 10 or more runs. But should the Red Raiders just score between three and five runs, the Texas Tech baseball team is 0-4 on the season. Texas Tech really needs to find a way to score, otherwise Tadlock’s team just isn’t going to have a chance to win.
When facing the Abilene Christian Wildcats, Texas Tech has a chance to go out and bounce back a bit. ACU is 15-13 on the season and the Wildcats aren’t that impressive. They’ve got a .277 batting average as a team and a 6.09 ERA. Texas Tech needs to take advantage of this game. The Red Raiders should be able to secure a win here.
