The search for top-end offensive linemen is an ongoing pursuit for every college football program. Players who are big enough and athletic enough to be difference-makers at that position group are hard to come by, making them among the most coveted commodities in the sport. Now, it appears that Texas Tech is squarely in the mix for one of the best OL prospects in Texas.
Ismael Camara, a four-star offensive tackle in the class of 2027, recently took to X where he posted a picture of himself in a Texas Tech Mahomes Brand jersey. Above the photo, he wrote "You know where the find me" with an emoji of an X and a red octagon.
Now, Texas Tech fans are trying to decipher what that post means. Is it an indication that the Gilmer, Texas product is leaning toward becoming a Red Raider? Or, is it just a random photo from which we can draw no substantive information? Only Camara knows.
What we can be certain of is that he is one of the most highly coveted recruits in the nation. 247Sports ranks him the No. 110 player in America regardless of position. The No. 17 player in Texas, he is the 11th-best offensive tackle in his class at this time.
So as you might expect, his offer list is incredible. Such programs as Alabama, Florida, LSU, Arkansas, Nebraska, Ole Miss, TCU, Tennessee, SMU, and A&M have all already reached out with scholarship offers.
Texas Tech extended its offer to Camara back in early December of last year. Since then, Camara has been on campus in Lubbock, having attended the spring football game on April 19.
Certainly, the 6-foot-6, 330-pounder will have his pick of just about any school in the country by the time he comes to a decision. Of course, the Red Raiders want to be in the mix for the entirety of the process.
In the past few recruiting classes, head coach Joey McGuire has added some impressive offensive line talent from the high school ranks. That's been an important component of trying to help fix one of the football program's greatest flaws.
The 2024 class included 4-star OL Ellis Davis from Prosper, Texas. Then, in the 2025 class, Tech landed another Prosper, Texas native, Connor Carty, who was also a 4-star signee.
While just being a four-star recruit does not ensure success at the college level, recruiting is always going to be a numbers game, and the more highly valued players Tech can add, the more likely it will be that the program will finally bring the offensive line up to par. That's why when a player like Camara gives any indication that he is interested in the Red Raiders, it is worth taking note.
