Texas Tech had a pretty potent offense during the 2015 season. The Red Raiders definitely weren’t any good on the defensive side of things, but this is an offense that managed to score over 45 points per game and they averaged over 388 passing yards per game. More than a fair bit of those passing yards went from Patrick Mahomes to Jakeem Grant.

Grant was, by far, Texas Tech’s leading receiver during the 2015 season. He was far from being the most physically imposing receiver for the Red Raiders, but he was dangerous in space and Mahomes was able to connect with Grant far more than any other TTU receiving threat that year.

Grant found a way to catch 90 passes in 2015, which is more than double the next leading pass catcher for the Red Raiders at that time. You know, that seems pretty good.

Texas Tech football history: During the 2015 season, Jakeem Grant hauled in enough passes to break the 1000 yard receiving season mark

Grant took those 90 passes and turned them into 1268 yards and 10 touchdown receptions. Throughout the year, he averaged 97.5 receiving yards per game and had 14.1 yards per reception. There really wasn’t a receiving threat that Mahomes turned to anywhere near as much as he did with Grant during the 2015 season.

During that year, Grant had some really solid showings. Against the Oklahoma State Cowboys, he managed to haul in 13 receptions for 178 yards and a touchdown.

When facing the Iowa State Cyclone, Grant caught nine passes and recorded 166 yards receiving with a couple of touchdowns. He had seven more catches against UTEP for 141 yards and a score. Then against TCU, Grant had eight catches for 126 yards and a touchdown. In Texas Tech’s final game of the season, Grant caught 10 passes for 125 yards and three scores against the LSU Tigers.
