Over the past couple of seasons, it’s been more than evident that Joey McGuire and his Texas Tech coaching staff have been doing a pretty fantastic job of going out and stockpiling talent for the Red Raiders. Quite frankly, there’s a ton of talent already in place in Lubbock (and it shouldn’t be surprising that there’s a ton more on the way in the upcoming recruiting class).

Right now, as we’re getting set for the start of the upcoming college football season (for which we still have to wait a few more months), we can take a look at the way things look for Texas Tech on the recruiting trail.

And I’m sure you’re going to be shocked to learn that the Red Raiders have the most talent rich class in the Big 12 at the moment.

On3 and Rival recently published their rankings of the top committed recruits that are heading to the Big 12 and the Red Raiders completely and totally own it. Eight of the top 10 prospects who are currently committed to playing in the conference are set on playing for McGuire and the Red Raiders.

8 of the Big 12’s best recruits for 2027 are currently committed to play for the Texas Tech Red Raiders

That includes Jalen Brewster on the defensive line, Benny Easter Jr. at wide receiver, Jhadyn Nelson at linebacker, Anthony Sweeney at edge, Julian Caldwell at wide receiver, Kavian Bryant at quarterback, K’Adrian Redmond on the defensive line, and Sarod Baker at running back.

Rivals and On3 currently have Brewster rated as a five-star recruit. Easter, Nelson, Sweeney, Caldwell, Bryant, Redmond, and Baker are all listed as four-star recruits. That gives the Red Raiders an absolute abundance of talent for the 2027 class. And, it’s worth noting that only the Houston Cougars and Colorado Buffaloes were able to make the list with the Red Raiders .

Defensive lineman Raiden Cook is currently committed to UH while quarterback Andre Adams is currently committed to Colorado.

With that wealth of talent, Texas Tech has a bunch of momentum towards the future of the program. With Cody Campbell helping to fuel the NIL efforts and his role as the Texas Tech System Board of Regents Chairman, there’s going to be a ton of support funneled towards the Red Raider football program for the foreseeable future.

And with McGuire leading the Texas Tech football program, acting as a CEO who has orchestrated a steady build with the timely hiring of great coordinators to help innovate and improve upon what the Red Raiders are capable of, this isn’t likely to be a flash in the pan sort of situation. Texas Tech really seems focused on building something that can be sustained.
