Over the past two decades or so, Texas Tech has produced a number of incredible passing attacks that have empowered remarkable quarterbacks and wide receivers (and even a few tight ends) to have really solid careers and put up insane stats seemingly more often than not.
And entering 2025, it looks like the Red Raiders might have another wide receiver primed for a phenomenal season in Caleb Dougals.
As the head coach of the Texas Tech Red Raiders put it himself, there’s a really good reason for TTU fans to be excited about what Douglas brings to the table and what he can do in this offense this coming season.
“Yeah, I’m excited,” McGuire noted during Big 12 media days. “Caleb Douglas, you know, I’ve known him for a long time, recruited him out of high school. He’s really developing as a big play guy.”

I, for one, would appreciate seeing more and more explosive passing plays. I’m here for it.
Douglas is entering his second season with the Red Raiders after starting his career in Gainesville with the Florida Gators. But it really looks like the Missouri City, Texas native is equipped to thrive in Lubbock with Texas Tech.
“You know, he really came on strong in the Big 12,” McGuire said. “I think he had five 100-yard games in the Big 12 last year and had a 100-yard game against Arkansas.”
That’s not quite totally accurate, but it’s actually REALLY close! And I can’t fault McGuire for not remembering exact stats off the top of his head. I’ve got access to a stat database as I write this. There’s no way I’d know this otherwise.
Also, McGuire was just one yard off. He had 99 yards receiving against Baylor. So, yeah, really close.
Douglas had four 100-yard passing games in total last season. That includes against Arizona, TCU, Oklahoma State, and Arkansas.
“He’s one of the guys that you know has an opportunity with a big year to declare early for the draft,” McGuire said. “And if he does that, that means he had a great year and that’s good for the Red Raiders.”
I love that perspective and it’s true. If we get Douglas putting up impressive stats again this season and really breaking out on the national scene, we’re going to be talking about an impressive offense to go right along with that.
