The Texas Tech football program has been steadily growing and improving under Joey McGuire’s leadership. At least that was the case prior to this season. This past season, the 2025 Texas Tech football season, thanks to an incredibly impressive NIL and transfer portal push, the Red Raiders broke through and won a dozen games.

Because of that sort of success and the amount of talent that has been accumulated in Lubbock for the Texas Tech football team, NFL scouts sure were interested in showing up to see what’s been building with the Red Raiders.

And it sure sounds like the Red Raiders have a lot to be proud of. At least that’s what McGuire said during a recent post practice press conference.

Texas Tech head coach Joey McGuire should be proud of the way NFL scouts showed up for the Red Raiders’ Pro Day

Texas Tech football fans should be thrilled about the player development, facilities, and talent pipeline that McGuire and the Red Raiders coaching staff are getting established. McGuire himself sure seemed to be happy about the way NFL scouts made it out to Texas Tech’s pro day and what that all meant for the Red Raiders.

“It puts a smile on my face because one, it was great to have our Pro Day back on campus,” McGuire explained

Which is fair, especially because of the sort of impact that had on the folks who made it out to Lubbock to visit the Texas Tech Red Raiders’ pro day.

“People were blown away,” he said. “They were blown away by this building.”

With all of the visible progress that the Texas Tech football program has made, it’s great that the Red Raiders are now in a better position to be able to go in and to continue to elevate themselves as a program. McGuire attributed much of that to the personnel department.

“It says a lot,” McGuire said. “One, that our personnel department is retaining players. They’re evaluating players from other teams, you know, when they go into the portal. So, we’re getting players. It also shows that these players are playing their best football at Texas Tech so far.”
