We are getting so close to the Big 12 championship game. We are getting so close to the possibiltiy of the Texas Tech Red Raiders competing in the Big 12 championship game (which would be for the very first time ever for this program).

On top of all of that, we are also getting pretty close to a possible second matchup between the BYU Cougars and the Texas Tech Red Raiders this season.

The first time Texas Tech and BYU faced one another, the Red Raiders won in pretty convincing fashion, taking care of the Cougars and winning by 22 points. The result was great for Texas Tech, but it seems like BYU left a very positive impression on te head coach of the Red Raider football team.

And during a recent episode of the What’s Next! with Joey McGuire podcast, the head coach of the Red Raiders took the opportunity to praise BYU fans and hyped up the possibility of an incredibly packed out Big 12 championship game.

Texas Tech head coach Joey McGuire speaks about the possibility of a rematch between the Red Raiders and the BYU Cougars

During the episode, McGuire noted that he thinks both Texas Tech and BYU fans will flock to Arlington for the Big 12 championship game.

“I honestly believe if there is a rematch, it will be the largest attended game in Big 12 championship history,” McGuire said. “I really believe that because I know what our people are going to do. And you know, if we take care of business, BYU takes care of business, it’s a rematch and that’s one great thing.”

The head coach of the Red Raiders continued, sharing his appreciation and respect for fans of the Cougars.

“Another thing I love about BYU, they travel,” McGuire continued. “We saw that here, I thought it was really cool, if you were just thinking about red, white, and blue. I mean, the one thing about our stadium was we had striped it out, but then there was that group of blue over there. Really so cool and American.”

McGuire continued, expanding on other elements of how he appreciates BYU fans.

“They’ve got some phenomenal fans, like we saw what they did, you know, really supporting Ivan, our barber, and his wife and everything,” McGuire said. “But man, they have great fans and so I do think that it’s going to be a packed house if we both can take care of business.”
