Cooper Hackett is the latest 5-star recruit to decide that he wants to play for the Texas Tech Red Raiders and that’s huge news for Joey McGuire and his coaching staff. They should be absolutely thrilled that their efforts (and the backing of boosters like Cody Campbell) is paying off in some pretty significant ways.

In the case of Hackett, a 5-star offensive lineman out of Oklahoma, the Red Raiders were able to beat out a significant number of high profile teams.

This is a pretty solid recruiting win for McGuire and the Red Raiders. Getting Hackett to commit (yes, it’s early, I get that) gave Texas Tech a recruiting win over a ton of other college football programs all across the country. I mean, we’re talking about a guy that had offers from just about anyone and everyone.

Texas Tech beats Oklahoma and a ton of other teams in recruiting battle for commitment from 2027 5-star OT Cooper Hackett

Obviously there’s the Oklahoma Sooners that we’ve talked a bit about, and that seems significant given Oklahoma’s history as a program and the way they left the Big 12 to go play in the SEC. But we can also talk about the Missouri Tigers in that same sort of light.

Let’s go through a list of teams that offered Hackett (according to 247 Sports), shall we?

The Arkansas Razorbacks, Auburn Tigers, Florida Gators, Kansas State Wildcats, Missouri Tigers, Nebraska Cornhuskers, Notre Dame Fighting Irish, Ohio State Buckeyes, Oklahoma Sooners, Oklahoma State Cowboys, Sacramento State Hornets, and Texas A&M Aggies.

But that doesn’t seem like all of the teams that might be interested in a talent like Hackett, right? Let’s check the list over at On3/Rivals to see what teams we haven’t listed yet.

The Oregon Ducks, Penn State Nittany Lions, Vanderbilt Commodores, Tulsa Golden Hurricane, and TCU Horned Frogs.

I’m a fan of seeing Texas Tech beat out all of those teams. I can get on board with the Red Raiders picking up a 5-star offensive lineman and beating out the likes of the Buckeyes, Sooners, Aggies, several teams of Tigers, Wildcats, Huskers, and Gators. I don’t think that’s a bad thing.
