Well, it looks like Joey McGuire and his Texas Tech Red Raider coaching staff are going to be facing a pretty tough recruiting battle as they try to keep one of the most talented wide receiver recruits in the state of Texas committed to playing in Lubbock.
Right now, it appears that a number of high profile college football teams are interested in trying to snag Benny Easter Jr. away from the Red Raiders.
That includes Ryan Day and the Ohio State Buckeyes, who have lined up an official visit for Easter later this week. Easter, understandably, is seemingly pretty excited about this upcoming trip to Columbus, Ohio to visit the Buckeyes and posted about it on Twitter/X.

Ryan Day and Ohio State are among those making a recruiting push for 4-star Texas Tech wide receiver commit Benny Easter Jr.
Also understandably, a bunch of Ohio State football fans were over the moon about that as well.

The Buckeyes continue pushing hard for one of the top wideouts in the 2027 class. https://t.co/gnO5Fh40l7
But while all of that is understandable, it’s far from ideal. The ideal sort of situation is that none of these other schools would be able to compete with the Red Raiders for a recruit like Easter. But that’s just not a reality that we happen to live in.
For those that need a reminder, Easter is a 4-star wide receiver from Humble, Texas. According to 247 Sports, he’s one of the top 10 players in the state of Texas. Nationally, he’s currently ranked as the No. 36 player in the country. Up to this point, Easter has been committed to play for the Red Raiders since November 20, 2025.
And it looks like Texas Tech will need to fight to keep him committed.
He’s going to be travelling a bit over the next few weeks. And really, he’s already been visiting a few other places. Back in April, Easter visited the LSU tigers. On May 29, he will be headed up to check out Ohio State.
On June 5, he’s currently set to visit the Ole Miss Rebels. Texas Tech will get a chance to host him in Lubbock on June 18 and then he’ll turn around and get out to Tuscaloosa for a visit with the Alabama Crimson Tide on June 19.
That’s a lot.
Texas Tech fans shouldn’t panic yet. This sort of thing is normal in recruiting. And objectively speaking, for Easter, it’s great for him to weigh all of his options. But for Texas Tech, Easter is part of what could be a monster class for the Red Raiders in 2027. Keeping him committed to playing in Lubbock would be huge for McGuire.
