Ahead of the Texas Tech Red Raiders upcoming Saturday afternoon matchup with the UCF Knights in Orlando, Florida, one key member of the Texas Tech men’s basketball team has received yet another Big 12 player of the week honor for the dominant performances that he’s put on throughout this season.
JT Toppin continues to play at a ridiculously high level, elevating what the Red Raiders are capable of this year.
And for the third time in just one month, Toppin has been named the Big 12’s player of the week. If you’re doing the math on how many times a college basketball player can earn Player of the Week honors from a conference in just one month, it isn’t many more times than three. That’s just a logistics and calendar sort of limitation.
Also, hey, this is the second time in as many weeks that Toppin has received this honor from the Big 12. Which seems good too.
Texas Tech Red Raiders star JT Toppin honored by Big 12 with Player of the Week honors for the third time this season
Last week, as he helped lead the Red Raiders to a four point home win over the No. 6 Houston Cougars and a 19 point win over the Baylor Bears in Waco, Toppin was averaging 26.5 points per game and eight rebounds per game.
Focusing in on that game against the Cougars, Toppin managed to score 31 points and snag 12 rebounds. He was truly and remarkably dominant in that game against one of the best teams in the country. And that’s exactly what Texas Tech needs to get from its stars as the Red Raiders try to compete for championships this season.
On the season, Toppin is putting up 22.1 points per game and 10.9 rebounds per game. Zooming in on how he’s performing in Big 12 play, Toppin is averaging 24 points per game and 11.4 rebounds per game. He’s been unstoppable lately.
