Just 1 team in college baseball has a better batting average than Texas Tech

This Texas Tech baseball team is really good at getting hits. Like, among the best in the country when it comes to getting hits. The Red Raiders aren’t just among the best in the Big 12 when it comes to batting average, Texas Tech is just about the best in the country across all of Division 1 college baseball.

Right now, Texas Tech has a .364 batting average, which puts the Red Raiders in position for trailing just the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets. The Red Raiders are managing to hit better than the entirety of the SEC and all of its elite baseball programs right now.

It’s still VERY early in the season, we’re not even through the month of March yet (and there’s also a lot more to winning baseball games than just having a really impressive batting average), but that’s absolutely a feat to celebrate and enjoy right now.

Texas Tech has managed to produce a .364 batting average and only the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets are doing better than the Red Raiders

Here’s what the top 10 list of the best batting averages in the country looks like right now:

  • Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets - .372
  • Texas Tech Red Raiders - .364
  • Mississippi State Bulldogs - .347
  • Florida Gulf Coast Eagles - .344
  • Mercer Bears - .343
  • Louisville Cardinals - .340
  • Saint Mary’s Gaels - .340
  • Georgia Bulldogs - .333
  • Arizona State Sun Devils - .332
  • Pittsburgh Panthers - .331

Folks, I don’t know if you’re going to believe me when I write this, but I’d say that’s pretty good company for the Texas Tech Red Raiders baseball team to be in.

It really is impressive that the Red Raiders are able to rank among the best in the nation. Having Texas Tech above Mississippi State and Georgia out of the SEC is such an interesting thing to be able to say (and it’s really impressive when you factor in just how good both sets of SEC Bulldogs are this year).

Again, still early in the season, but for a team that was picked to finish ninth in the Big 12 by the Big 12 preseason poll, having the second best batting average in the country is something to really sit back and enjoy.
