It didn’t take too much offense for the Texas Tech Red Raiders to get their shutout win over the Baylor Bears. Truly, the Texas Tech softball team didn’t need to do too much at the plate to be able to get a win on Thursday night.
Thanks to the way Kaitlyn Terry tossed a dominant one-hitter shutout against the visiting Bears, the Red Raiders were able to get a pretty solid 5-0 win (which happens to be Texas Tech’s 17th shutout win of the season in the process).
Texas Tech, now 49-4 overall and 20-2 against Big 12 teams, was able to shutout Baylor, now 27-24 overall and 9-13 in Big 12 play, in the form of a 5-0 win at Tracy Sellers Field on Thursday. And the aforementioned Terry was a huge part of that.
Terry managed to throw a complete game one-hitter with a really impressive stat line as she secured her 21st win of the season. In 7.0 innings pitched, Terry gave up a hit and allowed a walk while also striking out nine Baylor batters en route to that 5-0 win.
Texas Tech softball handles the Baylor Bears with relative ease as the Red Raiders secure a Game 1 win on Thursday
Interestingly enough, even though Texas Tech didn’t need much from its bats on Thursday, the Bears found a way to really limit the Red Raiders at the plate. This game was scoreless early on until a Taylor Pannell sac fly scored Jackie Lis in the bottom of the 2nd inning.
In the bottom of the 4th inning, with Mia Williams able to draw a walk (and then Lis right behind her), Lauren Allred knocked a single to get Williams to put TTU up 2-0.
Then, in the bottom of the 6th inning, with Williams and Lis on base once again, Jasmyn Burns was able to step in with a pinch hit home run that scored three and gave Tech a 5-0 victory over the Bears.
Even though the Red Raiders didn’t put up a crazy ton of runs on the board, this game was lopsided and definitely in Texas Tech’s favor. Now the Red Raiders have a shot to go out and get another conference series win on Friday.
