If I had to take a guess, I’d be willing to bet that Lee Hunter is probably enjoying his trip to his hometown. I’d be shocked if he wasn’t. But, it is worth considering that the stakes for this particular do have a bit of a connection to his career.

During this trip back to Mobile, Alabama, Hunter will be set to compete in the 2026 Senior Bowl (he’s among the five Red Raiders ready to play in the Senior Bowl, which is a truly impressive feat). Like Romello Height, Hunter took an interesting path to get to this moment as he tries to build his NFL Draft stock even further after a really strong season with the Red Raiders.

Hunter (like Height) bounced around the transfer portal a little bit after getting his career started with the Auburn Tigers. When things didn’t work out at Auburn, Hunter made his way down to Orlando, Florida to play for Gus Malzahn and the UCF Knights.

Then, when he had the chance to make the move to Lubbock to play for the Red Raiders following the 2024 season, Hunter took it.

And I think it might be safe to say that it worked out for all involved.

Hunter had a really strong season as he helped anchor the Texas Tech defensive front. Throughout the season, Hunter managed to record a total of 41 tackles, 10.5 tackles for loss, 2.5 sacks, and one forced fumble.

He was a force for the Red Raiders and the Texas Tech defensive line certainly benefitted from having Hunter present. Now Hunter has the chance to build upon everything he accomplished in college and to showcase his skills for NFL scouts. It’s a great opportunity and here’s to hoping that he thrives at the Senior Bowl.
