To be completely honest, Luke Bamgboye wasn’t on the court all that much against the Iowa State Cyclones. Just 20 minutes. But in that timeframe, he played a very important role and really helped the Texas Tech Red Raiders go out and get a nine-point win in a nearly impossible place to get any sort of win.
In Ames, Bamgboye managed to make 6-of-7 shots from the field and turned that into 13 points against the Cyclones. Along with that, Bamgboye also blocked a couple of shots from Iowa State. And again, he did all of that in just 20 minutes on the court.
And Texas Tech needed that. It took a complete team effort for the No. 16 Red Raiders to walk into Hilton Coliseum and get a win over the No. 4 team in the country. And Bamgboye was incredibly efficient with his time that he was able to play.
Texas Tech’s Luke Bamgboye had a huge impact in just 20 minutes against the Iowa State Cyclones
Now, one of the biggest reasons Texas Tech wasn’t able to get Bamgboye on the court for a more full time allotment is that he had five fouls in just 20 minutes of play. That’s, uh, not ideal! That limited his availability and potential impact that he could have had for the Red Raiders.
If Bamgboye can play a cleaner game, avoiding penalties and allowing Grant McCasland to keep him on the court for more extended periods of time, then there’s something to be really excited about there. Bamgboye showed a ton of potential in this game and Texas Tech needs that with JT Toppin absent due to a season-ending ACL injury.
So what Bamgboye did for Texas Tech in this game is huge. Bamgboye’s season average is 5.1 points per game. And that’s increased thanks to this highly efficient effort against the Cyclones.
