I sure hope Mack Leftwich is proud of the way his offense performed in his first game as the offensive coordinator of the Texas Tech Red Raiders. He absolutely deserves to be proud of the way things turned out for his offense in his game.
I mean, we’re talking about scoring on every single drive in the first half! This is an offense that converted 87.5 percent of its third down attempts in the game. This is an offense that truly never punted against Arkansas-Pine Bluff. The Red Raiders scored those 67 points through three quarters!
That’s impressive. And Leftwich should be proud. On top of that, Texas Tech football fans should be excited about what this offense can potentially accomplish this season.
Texas Tech’s offense definitely had no issue moving the ball in 67-7 win over Arkansas-Pine Bluff
This offensive effort was so balanced, but I feel like it’d be a mistake if we didn’t talk about how precise Texas Tech’s passing game was against the Arkansas-Pine Bluff Golden Lions.
Three different quarterbacks happened to throw touchdowns in this game. Behren Morton managed to complete 16 of 18 pass attempts for 201 yards and four touchdowns. Behind him, Will Hammond displayed true dual threat ability as he threw for 92 yards, ran for 64 yards, and happened to have a touchdown through the air and on the ground.
Then there’s Mitch Griffis, who didn’t get much playing time, but he did show that Texas Tech has a bit of depth at quarterback as he completed a couple passes for 21 yards and a touchdown.
On the ground, beyond what Hammond brought to the table, there were plenty of other things to be excited about here as well. Like the total of 294 rushing yards on just 29 carries in this game. 10.1 yards per carry isn’t something to ignore.
We got to see three different players score rushing touchdowns (shoutout to Cameron Dickey, J’Koby Williams, and the aforementioned Hammond). Oh, and then there’s the 78 yards that Adam Hill contributed as well.
This offense is dangerous, efficient, and explosive. It has a ton of talent and works at a fast pace. There were a few errors here and there, but the Red Raiders looked good on offense and I’m very excited to see what they’re able to do going forward.
