The Texas Tech football team hasn't put the finishing touches on its 2025 roster just yet. Despite having already signed a historic transfer class, one that is tops in the nation, head coach Joey McGuire is still trying to add talent to his program.
A new target to monitor is massive offensive lineman Tyrell Green. Checking in at 6-foot-5 and 330 pounds, he played this past season at Eastern Kentucky in the FCS ranks.
There, he earned FCS Freshman All-America honors as a right guard. Now, it appears that he is interested in moving up to the FBS ranks, and Texas Tech could be a landing spot.

According to 247Sports, Green is a 3-star transfer. That site lists him as the No. 38 interior offensive lineman in the portal at this time.
Coming out of high school in the class of 2024, the native of Toledo, Ohio, was just a two-star prospect. However, thanks in large part to his massive frame, he was able to dominate the FCS ranks right away.
It is interesting to see that the Red Raiders are looking to add more help along the offensive line. Of course, that decision was likely impacted by the fact that the program has seen three backup offensive linemen enter the portal this week.
Tech has already brought in three transfer offensive linemen this offseason, including another player who starred at the FCS level last fall, Hunter Zambrano. He is a 6-foot-5, 300-pound interior offensive lineman who joined the Red Raiders from Illinois State when the early portal window was open in December.
While Zambrano is going to be a senior this fall, Green is just starting out on his college football career. He could even take 2025 as a redshirt season if needed, since he didn't sit out last season.
This is a player that Texas Tech would love to bring into the mix, given his size and the fact that he has already performed at a high level in the FCS ranks. He could pay immediate dividends if he proves ready to step up against Big 12 teams, or he could be a future building block given his age. Either way, adding a lineman of this size and pedigree in the spring portal window would be a shrewd move for McGuire and his coaching staff.
