A bye week is always a good thing to have. It allows a team to rest, take a breather, and then go ahead and prep for the remainder of the season. Texas Tech got to take a break this past week following the Red Raiders’ dominant win over the UCF Knights on Senior Day.

Now, Texas Tech is getting set to hit the road for Morgantown, West Virginia so that they can face off against the West Virginia Mountaineers.

As Texas Tech has gone throughout the season, Joey McGuire and the Red Raiders have had to navigate a few different injury issues (especially at quarterback as both Behren Morton and Will Hammond have been dinged up at times).

During a recent press conference ahead of Texas Tech’s road trip, McGuire was asked about Morton’s health pertaining and the bye week.

Texas Tech head coach Joey McGuire shares encouraging injury update on Red Raider starting quarterback Behren Morton

Here’s what the head coach of the Red Raiders had to say about his starting quarterback for the upcoming Texas Tech game against the West Virginia Mountaineers.

“He feels great,” McGuire explained. “You know, we kept him in a boot all last week, he actually went through everything. It was a shorter practice, but he went through everything, he was just in the boot.”

That said, it really sounds like the starting quarterback for Texas Tech is ready to be out of that boot.

“He doesn't want to be in that boot, he doesn’t think he needs it right now, but I know he felt better than he had felt all year long really whenever he played UCF,” Texas Tech’s head coach said. “And so we’ll keep him in it.”

I agree with that sort of approach. Protect Morton as much as you possibly can. Please. Protect him. Keep him healthy.

“He’ll do all the throwing and then he’ll do all the scout periods, then we’ll get him back in the boot, you know, and keep him like that,” McGuire said.
