Plenty of people remember all of the highs from the thrilling 2008 Texas Tech football season. The Red Raiders were captivating, scored points by the dozen, and grabbed plenty of attention from college football fans all over the country thanks to the way their Air Raid offense torched opposing defenses on a very regular basis.
Fresh off a season in which he caught over 130 passes for nearly 2000 yards and over 20 touchdowns, Michael Crabtree entered the year with plenty of defensive coordinators and defensive backs paying close attention to what he brought to the table.
And even with the way opposing defenses trying to figure him out and lock him down, Crabtree still managed to become the third Red Raider to ever record multiple 1000 yard receiving seasons as he still caught plenty of passes for a ton of yards and an abundance of touchdowns.
Texas Tech football history: In 2008, Michael Crabtree became Texas Tech’s third receiver to post multiple 1000 yard receiving seasons
Crabtree’s 2008 season wasn’t quite as electrifying and magical as his 2007 season, but he was still really impressive and difficult for opposing defenses to slow down. Crabtree had four games in 2008 where he had at least 100 receiving yards.
Against the Nevada Wolfpack, Crabtree had seven receptions for 158 yards and a touchdown. When Texas Tech faced SMU, the Mustangs gave up eight receptions to Crabtree as he recorded 164 yards and three more touchdowns.
A few weeks later, on the road at Kansas State, Crabtree hauled in nine passes for 107 yards and two touchdowns. Later on in the season, and in one of Texas Tech’s most memorable games, Crabtree caught 10 passes for 127 yards and a touchdown.
In total, Texas Tech fans got to witness Crabtree catching 97 passes for 1165 yards and a remarkable 19 touchdowns.
