Under the leadership of Grant McCasland, the Texas Tech basketball program has used the transfer portal excellently. And one factor that the Red Raiders seem to target when bringing in players from other universities is multiple years of eligibility.
Darrion Williams, JT Toppin, Chance McMillian, and Kevin Overton all joined the Red Raiders via the portal while having at least two years left in their college careers. What's more, Williams and Toppin arrived after being the Freshman of the Year in the Mountain West Conference the season prior.
While the Red Raiders won't add this season's MWC Freshman of the Year, Magoon Gwath, who is returning to San Diego State, McCasland and Co. are targeting another mid-major conference's top freshman.
It is being reported by multiple sources on social media that Delaware guard Izaiah Pasha has narrowed his choices, and Texas Tech remains in the mix. In fact, Scarlet and Black Insider and Max Feldman of Made Hoops both recently posted on X that the Red Raiders are in Pasha's top three, along with Gonzaga and Penn State.

A 6-foot-4, 190-pound guard from Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, Pasha was recently named the Coastal Athletic Conference Rookie of the Year. In his first season of college hoops, he averaged 11.9 points, 4.2 rebounds, and 3.9 assists per game.
He put up 19 double-digit scoring efforts, including seven of 15 or more points. That included two 20-point efforts.
Of course, Texas Tech needs to add more talent in the backcourt this offseason. Though the Red Raiders' own dynamic freshman, Christian Anderson, is expected to return next season after posting 10.6 points, 3.0 rebounds, and 2.2 assists per game in 2024-25, Tech is losing three senior guards who played starting roles this past season, Elijah Hawkins, Kerwin Walton, and McMillian.
As a result, finding help at the guard position is a must. Now, it appears that Pasha is a player the Red Raiders might bring into the fold.
If that happens, it will continue the program's trend of adding mid-major conference Freshman of the Year as well as players with more than one season left to play. What's more, it would give McCasland and Co. some much-needed size and scoring in the backcourt to pair with Anderson.
