Following a stunning 2025 Texas Tech softball season, the Red Raiders are getting plenty of positive press going into 2026. And it’s coming from a variety of sources. It isn’t just one outlet or another. The Red Raiders are being hyped up by a ton of different folks.

Like Softball America, who has the Texas Tech softball team as the No. 1 team in the country in their preseason college softball rankings as we head into the 2026 NCAA softball season. Personally, I’m not going to complain, but I imagine that there are some college softball fans who are going to have strong opinions on that matter.

Here’s what college softball fans had to say about Glasco and the Red Raiders being ranked No. 1 in the country.

College softball fans react as the Texas Tech Red Raiders are ranked No. 1 entering the 2026 season according to Softball America

Folks, they aren’t thrilled. Some college softball fans are indeed not happy that the Red Raiders are the top ranked team in the 2026 preseason college softball rankings from the fine folks over at Softball America.

Some softball fans were mad about NiJaree Canady playing for Texas Tech, which is a choice to still be mad about at this point.

And, unsurprisingly, a number of Texas softball fans chimed in.

And to be completely and totally honest and transparent on this matter, I can’t totally blame them. They did indeed manage to beat the Red Raiders in the Women’s College World Series finals AND they’ve got a ton of talent returning this year. I’m not saying that they’re right, but I am saying that I kinda understand the source of their frustration and annoyance here.

Regardless, it’s a preseason ranking. We’re days away from the season actually starting. And soon enough, we’ll get to see what Texas Tech looks like this year.
