The 2025 Texas Tech football season was a thrill to keep up with in so many different ways and that includes the guy who was responsible for driving the offense that Mack Leftwich architected. Behren Morton dealt with injuries through essentially all of the season and he still helped lead the Red Raiders to a Big 12 title and an appearance in the College Football Playoff.
Now, following a productive season where he helped the Red Raiders set all sorts of program history, Morton has been given the opportunity to continue playing football. Thanks to the New England Patriots, Morton has been selected with the No. 234 overall pick of the 2026 NFL Draft.
While his draft spot may have been later than he would have liked (and what some may have expected or hoped for), Morton was still drafted. He’s been given an opportunity to play in the NFL.
The New England Patriots just drafted the quarterback who helped lead one of the best seasons in Texas Tech football history
During the 2025 season, as he navigated some injury issues, Morton managed to complete 219 of 332 pass attempts (good for 66 percent completed) for 2780 yards and 22 touchdowns while tossing just six interceptions.

During the entirety of his career with the Red Raiders, Morton spent five years playing for the Texas Tech football team (shoutout to redshirt seasons). In that timeframe, Morton completed 793 of 1263 pass attempts for 8989 yards, and 71 touchdowns all while throwing 28 interceptions.
It’s also worth mentioning that Morton also added seven more touchdowns on the ground and steadily improved as a passer for the Red Raiders, increasing his completion percentage on a year-by-year sort of basis.
With New England selecting him, Morton was made the eighth Red Raider to get picked up in the 2026 NFL draft along with David Bailey, Jacob Rodriguez, Lee Hunter, Romello Height, Caleb Douglas, Reggie Virgil, and Skyler Gill-Howard.
