The No. 1 seed in the 2026 Big 12 tournament didn’t have much of an issue taking care of business on Thursday. When Gerry Glasco and the Texas Tech Red Raiders met up with the Baylor Bears (the No. 8 seed in the tournament), Texas Tech went out and got a lopsided shutout win in Oklahoma City.

Between Mia Williams launching a couple of home runs and NiJaree Canady holding Baylor to just one hit, the Red Raiders were able to improve to 51-5 on the season. And of course, Texas Tech is advancing on to face the No. 5 Kansas Jayhawks in Friday afternoon’s semifinal matchup.

The Red Raiders were able to get on the board in a hurry as Williams launched her first home run of the day in the bottom of the first inning in the first at bat for Texas Tech.

Then, the Red Raiders managed to really blow things open in the third inning. With Hailey Toney on base via a walk and Mia Williams having hit a double to put two runners in scoring position, Jackie Lis took advantage and hammered a three-run home run of the season to put Texas Tech up 4-0 in the bottom of the third inning.

Williams managed to hit another home run again in the fifth inning and then the Red Raiders got a couple more runs via some timely hitting in the sixth to take a 7-0 lead over Baylor. Texas Tech continued on to win 7-0.

Throughout the game, Canady really thrived as she managed to strike out six batters and gave up just one hit and a couple of walks against the Bears. With 81 pitches thrown in five innings of work, Canady set the Red Raiders up to win with ease.

Texas Tech and Kansas will meet up at 3 p.m. CT in the Big 12 softball tournament semifinals on Friday.
