While game two may have been a little close for comfort, Sunday afternoon’s matchup between Gerry Glasco’s Texas Tech Red Raiders and the Arizona State Sun Devils really wasn’t all that much of a challenge for the Texas Tech softball team.
To be completely honest, Texas Tech’s pitching staff managed to bounce back from a rough Saturday to smother Arizona State to complete the Big 12 series sweep in Tempe. And that was really impressive to see Texas Tech close the series out like that.
After pitching in game two, Canady returned to the circle to start against the Sun Devils and pitched really solidly for five full innings. In her outing, Canady allowed just three hits and gave up a run (that was unearned) while also walking four batters. That said, Canady also struck out four batters and helped put the Red Raiders in position to win this one.

Samantha Lincoln took over for Canady late and threw a couple of hitless innings that secured the series sweep for the Red Raiders. At the plate, Mia Williams managed to go 3-for-4 on the day and hit a solo home run while Taylor Pannell also hammered a homer (her second of the series).
As a (very positive) consequence of the series sweep on the road, Texas Tech (now 47-4 on the season and 19-2 in Big 12 play) managed to win the Big 12 regular season title for the second season in a row. So, yeah, while this one win wasn’t that big of a deal, it was really important for Texas Tech to complete the sweep of Arizona State who is now 35-16 overall and 8-13 against Big 12 teams.
