No Big 12 pitching staff is easier to get hits off of than Texas Tech’s right now

Okay, this is pretty far from ideal. Folks, Texas Tech’s pitching staff has some problems. The Red Raiders apparently have the easiest pitching staff to get a hit off of when you take a look around the Big 12. At the moment, the Red Raiders pitching staff is giving up a .295 batting average to opposing hitters.

Again, that’s not good. That’s pretty far from good. In fact, it’s near the bottom of the Big 12. And by “near the bottom of the Big 12” I mean that it is in fact the highest opponent batting average in the conference at the moment.

I don’t think it’s a good thing for Texas Tech’s pitching staff to give up hits at a rate that resembles a really solid hitter.

While Texas Tech is winning games right now, that’s a problem and could yield some issues when the Red Raiders meet up with more challenging teams in the very near future.

Texas Tech’s pitching staff is the worst in the Big 12 as the Red Raiders are giving up a .295 opponent batting average

With the Red Raiders sitting at the very bottom of the Big 12, here’s how things shake out right now:

  • West Virginia Mountaineers - .205 batting average
  • UCF Knights - .232 batting average
  • Cincinnati Bearcats - .242 batting average
  • Arizona State Sun Devils - .244 batting average
  • Houston Cougars - .254 batting average
  • Kansas State Wildcats - .256 batting average
  • Oklahoma State Cowboys - .264 batting average
  • Kansas Jayhawks - .272 batting average
  • Arizona Wildcats - .277 batting average
  • Utah Utes - .281 batting average
  • Baylor Bears - .283 batting average
  • BYU Cougars - .287 batting average
  • TCU Horned Frogs .293 batting average
  • Texas Tech Red Raiders - .295 batting average

It’s interesting. There’s pretty clear stratification in this, but even though Texas Tech is at the bottom of the conference when it comes to allowing opposing lineups to make consistent, quality contact, the Red Raiders are still winning games.

Part of that has to do with the fact that Texas Tech can score runs seemingly just about whenever it wants. If you’re going to have a struggling pitching staff, it certainly helps to have a team that can score a ton of runs. And that’s what the Red Raiders have going on in Lubbock right now.
