Nobody in the Big 12 can keep up with Texas Tech’s scoring pace right now

One of my favorite aspects of this part of the college baseball season is we get more and more data to help us start to sort out which teams are actually really impressive and which teams are struggling. And it’s not like raw stats are really the best way to figure that sort of stuff out, but those additional data points certainly help.

Advanced stats certainly tell us a lot more than just basic numbers ever could, but I think it’s still worthwhile to take a look and evaluate how much a team is scoring and how that compares to other teams in its conference.

For Tim Tadlock and the Texas Tech baseball team, it’s clear that the Red Raiders are better at scoring runs than just about anyone else in the Big 12 and it’s not by a small margin. Texas Tech has scored 265 runs in just 24 games. The next best team is Kansas State, who has scored 240 runs in 25 games.

Texas Tech is outscoring every other Big 12 team by an incredibly impressive margin

With Texas Tech currently ranked as the top team in the Big 12 for scoring runs, here’s what it looks like for the rest of the conference:

  • Texas Tech Red Raiders - 265 runs in 24 games
  • Kansas State Wildcats - 240 runs in 25 games
  • Cincinnati Bearcats - 224 runs in 27 games
  • Arizona State Sun Devils - 220 runs in 24 games
  • Oklahoma State Cowboys - 193 runs in 25 games
  • West Virginia Mountaineers - 191 runs in 21 games
  • Kansas Jayhawks - 183 runs in 24 games
  • TCU Horned Frogs - 179 runs in 24 games
  • BYU Cougars - 168 runs in 23 games
  • Houston Cougars - 167 runs in 24 games
  • UCF Knights - 163 runs in 23 games
  • Baylor Bears -150 runs in 24 games
  • Utah Utes - 140 runs in 22 games
  • Arizona Wildcats - 136 runs in 24 games

There’s a 25-run margin that exists between Texas Tech and Kansas State, the second best team in the Big 12 (and it also took the Wildcats another game to get to that run total). Texas Tech sure seems capable of scoring a ton of runs per game, maybe that can help them truly offset those pitching problems they’re having.
