Given the history of the Texas Tech football program (especially recent years), it’s understandable why some college football fans might believe it’s fair to overlook the Red Raiders a bit when it comes to championship expectations.
Entering the 2025 season, however, things feel a little different.
And it’s starting to feel like there are some bettors and oddsmakers who agree with that notion. Now, I want to be fully clear that I’m not saying the Red Raiders should be the favorite in the Big 12 in terms of expecting which team will win the conference championship this year.
I’m just saying that, with all the talent that Joey McGuire assembled thanks to an NIL-infused Transfer Portal push and the additions of Mack Leftwich and Shiel Wood to the coaching staff, the Red Raiders should be seen as a very real conference championship contender in the Big 12 this season.
And that seems to be the case right now as the Red Raiders are currently in the midst of the top four teams with the best odds in the Big 12 to claim the conference championship this season.
The Texas Tech Red Raiders are sitting at the top of the Big 12 in a tie for the best odds to win the conference in 2025
The best part of that is that the Red Raiders are tied with the other teams.
Checking out the current odds on the Fanduel sportsbook, there are four teams tied with identical odds for winning the Big 12 championship in 2025 at +550. That includes the Kansas State Wildcats, Utah Utes, Texas Tech Red Raiders, and Arizona State Sun Devils.
That’s a decent group for Texas Tech to be affiliated with this season.
Not too far behind that group or four is Baylor at +650. Then a bit after that and you’ve got the TCU Horned Frogs who enter the season at +900.
It feels good to see the Red Raiders ahead of both the Bears and Horned Frogs. That’s something I appreciate here. It also feels good to see Texas Tech having just as good a shot as anyone could conceivably have when it comes to winning the conference championship this season.
