After getting an opening round bye for being one of the most impressive teams in the country all season long, the Ohio State Buckeyes are getting set to face off against the Miami Hurricanes over in Arlington in the Cotton Bowl.

Ohio State has been incredibly solid all season long and the defending national champs sure look capable of going out and winning another national title again this season. When we’re talking about Ohio State, we’re talking about one of the most well-rounded and talented teams in the country, by the way.

The Buckeyes are great at just about everything and they’ve routinely mauled their opponents throughout the season.

Very few teams have truly challenged this Ohio State team and only one opponent has managed to beat the Buckeyes this year.

Everything Texas Tech football fans should know about the Ohio State Buckeyes in the College Football Playoff

First, let’s go over the basics of this Ohio State football team:

  • Head coach: Ryan Day
  • Conference: Big Ten
  • Location: Columbus, Ohio
  • Stadium: Ohio Stadium
  • 2025 record: 12-1 overall, 9-0 Big Ten

The Buckeyes have been an incredibly impressive team to watch all throughout the season. While they haven’t been perfect, they’ve been really close to it. The only team to manage a win against the Buckeyes was Indiana in a close, 13-10 matchup in the Big Ten championship game. And just a reminder, Indiana is currently the top team in the country.

Ohio State’s defense is really what makes this team special. The offense is good, but this Ohio State defense might be generationally elite. They’re allowing just 8.15 points per game and holding opponents to 213.5 yards per game. Ohio State’s defense is redefining what a stifling, stingy defense can be.

If Ohio State is able to handle business against the Miami Hurricanes in the Cotton Bowl, the Buckeyes would advance on to face the winner of the Sugar Bowl between the Ole Miss Rebels and the Georgia Bulldogs in the Fiesta Bowl.
