Right now, the Texas Tech Red Raiders have essentially zero margin for error because they ended up losing on the road against a quirky Arizona State Sun Devils team.
And that’s going to be an interesting thing to keep up on because one of the biggest reasons the Red Raiders can’t suffer that sort of a loss right now is because the Big 12 championship is happening in just a handful of weeks and there are four teams in the conference with one or fewer losses.
The Kansas State Wildcats happen to be Texas Tech’s next opponent in what will be a road game and they’re riding a bit of a wave of momentum right now after winning three of their last four games. Texas Tech might just run into a tricky situation when the Red Raiders go to Manhattan and it’s starting to sound like Joey McGuire might just be aware of that fact.
Texas Tech head coach Joey McGuire points to how the Red Raiders might struggle on the road vs. the Kansas State Wildcats
During a recent press conference ahead of Texas Tech’s upcoming road trip to face the Wildcats, the head coach of the Red Raiders comments on how this game might be a unique sort of challenge for the Texas Tech football team.
“We’re going to have our work cut out for us, it’s going to be a great game,” McGuire said. “I think if you look at the game, if you're a football fan that loves really physical football and two really good teams, you should tune in and watch that game because it’s going to be a great one.”
If you do want to watch this game, it helps that the Red Raiders are getting it on FOX and in the national spotlight. Now, because of that national spotlight, it’d be great if the Red Raiders could avoid losing and focusing on getting a win.
Especially in front of Kansas State football fans and in their stadium, which is a venue that McGuire seems to respect a bit.
“I’m excited to go to Manhattan,” McGuire said. “I’ve told y’all before, it’s one of my favorite places to play on the road. I think they’ve got a great fanbase, it’s the kind of old school, real traditional [fanbase].”
Texas Tech can’t overlook this opportunity or just assume that this will be a win for the Red Raiders. This is a game that Texas Tech absolutely needs to take seriously.
