The Texas Tech basketball program is headed back to the Sweet 16 after Saturday's 77-64 takedown of No. 11 seed Drake in the second round of the NCAA Tournament. It was an impressive showing by the Red Raiders, who won despite making only two 3-pointers one game after drilling 13 in the opening-round win over UNCW.

This is the program's sixth trip to the Sweet 16 since the tournament field expanded to 64 teams in 1984. Since that expansion, Tech has made it to the tournament's second weekend in 1996, 2005, 2018, 2019, 2022, and now 2025.

What has made the last four appearances in the Sweet 16 so unusual, though, is that they have come under three different head coaches. Typically, having three different men lead your program in the span of four years is a way to ruin a program. However, Tech has continually found a way to win despite having a bit of a revolving door at the top of the program.

Grant McCasland now appears to have settled that down, though. He's a perfect fit in West Texas because he's built his program on the foundation of discipline, hard work, and respect while also incorporating an offensive style of play that is exciting and innovative.

For most of the season, the Texas Tech hype train has steadily picked up steam. Tech has gone from unranked to begin the season to being in the top 10 in the final polls before the NCAA Tournament.

Along the way, McCasland has picked up a ton of respect and gained some new fans from people around the country who are realizing that he is building something sustainable and impressive on the Caprock.

Now, with his team advancing to the Sweet 16 for the first time in his head coaching tenure, his star is only going to shine even brighter as this program garners more attention. And after Tech's dismantling of Drake on Saturday, people across the college basketball world as well as Red Raider fans took to social media to sing the Red Raiders' praises. Here is a sample of what was said after Texas Tech got back to the Sweet 16.
