Texas Tech was able to address a number of issues through the transfer portal this past offseason in such impressive and exciting ways. The Red Raiders essentially blew up their defensive line and brought in a ton of talent to beef things up there in the trenches.

But that wasn’t the only place that Texas Tech was able to add significant talent into its roster. The defensive line gets so much attention because it’s just not known for the Red Raiders to thrive on defense, so that was something that got a ton of attention.

But there were some very notable additions to the offense that should not go unnoticed. Take Terrance Carter Jr. for example. When he decided to leave the Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns behind and to play this coming season over in Lubbock, the tight end provided Texas Tech with yet another 4-star talent in the transfer portal class.

That’s good. And it’s also worth noting that Carter is now being recognized as one of the top returning tight ends in the Big 12 this coming season. Which is also good.

Former 4-star Terrance Carter Jr. makes PFF’s list of top returning tight ends in the Big 12 entering 2025 Texas Tech football season

Here are the tight ends on the list for the good folks over at Pro Football Focus:

Again, Carter was rated as a 4-star as he made his way through the Transfer Portal, according to 247 Sports. We’re talking about a 6-foot-2, 245 pound tight end who absolutely dominated for the Ragin’ Cajuns and is now set to play a significant role in Texas Tech’s offense.

Last season, Carter caught 48 passes for 689 yards and four touchdowns. The season prior to that, he managed to get 28 receptions for 255 yards and three touchdowns. For a tight end, those are pretty solid stats. As he gets a chance to play for Texas Tech, I wouldn’t be surprised in the slightest to see him put up better numbers in Lubbock this coming season.
