The 2024-25 College Football Playoff will be one for the ages as the field expands from just four teams to 12. With such a big change, there has been quite a bit of interest from fas as to just what the new format will look like. fans

For instance, fans have wondered how the scheduling would work. Would there be a long break as there has traditionally been between the end of the regular season and the start of bowl season?

Similarly, fans have been curious to know which bowls will be part of the playoff process and which will not. Certainly, some of the game's most celebrated postseason games will be impacted by the new playoff.

Fortunately, most of our questions have now been answered as we have a complete schedule for the 11 games of the new playoff format. So let's look at how the 12-team College Football Playoff will be structured.

2024-25 College Football Playoff Schedule

Playoff first round:


Game 1: Friday, December 20 at 8 p.m. ET on TNT Sports
Game 2: Saturday, December 21 at noon ET on TNT Sports
Game 3: Saturday, December 21 at 4 p.m. ET on ABC/ESPN
Game 4: Saturday, December 21 at 8 p.m. ET on ABC/ESPN

Playoff quarterfinals:

Game 1: VRBO Fiesta Bowl, Tuesday, December 31 at 7:30 p.m. ET on ESPN
Game 2: Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl, Wednesday, January 1 at 1 p.m. ET on ESPN
Game 3: Rose Bowl, Wednesday, January 1 at 5 p.m. ET on ESPN
Game 4: Allstate Sugar Bowl, Wednesday, January 1 at 8:45 p.m. ET on ESPN

Playoff semifinals:

Game 1: Capital One Orange Bowl, Thursday, January 9 at 1 p.m. ET on ESPN
Game 2: Goodyear Cotton Bowl, Wednesday, January 10 at 7:30 p.m. ET on ESPN

National Championship:

Monday, January 20 at 7:30 p.m. ET on ESPN

Of course, the Texas Tech football team hopes to be in contention for a playoff spot this season. To ensure they earn that opportunity, the Red Raiders will need to win the Big 12 Championship and claim the conference's automatic bid to the playoff.

Should Joey McGuire's team manage to do that, it would mark the program's first ever Big 12 title and it's first outright conference championship since 1955 and its first conference title of any kind since 1995.
