2024 Week 4 12-team College Football Playoff Prediction
Week four of the college football season is already in the books. And it was an interesting week as it pertains to the 12-team College Football Playoff.
One huge shift in the playoff picture occurred in Ann Arbor, Michigan. That's where the Michigan Wolverines bullied their way to a 27-24 win over the USC Trojans.
That game drops the Trojans out of the playoff picture for now but with games coming up against Penn State and Notre Dame, there are still chances for the Trojans to get back into the field. Meanwhile, Michigan kept its hopes for a spot in the playoff alive after those hopes took a hit in the first three weeks of the season.
In Norman, Oklahoma, No. 7 Tennessee had no problems securing a win over No. 15 Oklahoma. That 25-15 win only further secures the Volunteers' spot in the playoff field at this point.
Meanwhile, No. 12 Utah marched into Stillwater, Oklahoma, and took down No. 14 Oklahoma State 22-19. The three-point win was more dominant than the final score showed as Utah led 22-3 at one point. What's more, the Utes had to win this game without starting QB Cam Rising.
So naturally, there will be some movement in our week-four College Football Playoff projections. Here's what the field might look like if the season ended today.
Rank | Team | Bid | Previous Rank |
---|---|---|---|
1 | Georgia | SEC Champ | 1 |
2 | Ohio State | Big Ten Champ | 2 |
3 | Miami | ACC Champ | 3 |
4 | Utah | Big 12 Champ | N/A |
5 | Texas | At-large | 5 |
6 | Alabama | At-large | 6 |
7 | Tennessee | At-large | 10 |
8 | Ole Miss | At-large | 7 |
9 | Penn State | At-large | 9 |
10 | Missouri | At-large | N/A |
11 | Oregon | At-large | 11 |
12 | Boise State | MWC Champ | 12 |
This week, Utah and Missouri join the projection for the first time. While the Utes clearly look the part of the best team in the Big 12, Missouri has had two close calls at home in the last two weeks. However, the Tigers get the benefit of the doubt for now.
The upcoming week will give us more games that will shake up the projection. Georgia travels to Alabama, Penn State takes on a ranked Illinois team, and Boise State takes on a Washington State team that has already beaten Texas Tech and Washington this year. So check in next week to see how the playoff projections shake out.
