Center: Federiko Federiko

There are a lot of ways McCasland could go with his fifth starter. He might start three guards and let Toppin be his biggest starter. Likewise, he could start another wing, such as Devan Cambridge, and have a versatile and athletic starting lineup that would create matchup problems, especially on offense.

However, it would make the most sense to start 7-foot center Federiko Federiko. The transfer from Pitt is a natural fit in the Red Raider starting lineup even if his stats don't jump off the page.

Last season, he averaged only 4.7 points and 5.2 boards per game while starting 26 of 33 games. However, he does do one thing especially well...protect the rim.

Averaging 1.7 blocks per game, he proved in 2023-24 that he can be a defensive force. That's something Tech will want to have in the rugged Big 12.

Right now, Federiko is Tech's only player over 6-foot-8. Thus, his size will be invaluable as was Washington's this past season. So expect to see Federiko in the starting five to team with Toppin and give the Red Raiders a ton of defensive ability in the paint.
