Big 12 football power rankings after spring portal closes: Did Red Raiders get better?
Avery Johnson is a player that Texas Tech football fans know all too well after he gashed Texas Tech in Lubbock on the ground last year. Now, he's the unquestioned leader of the Kansas State offense and he could become one of college football's biggest stars this season.
The Wildcats also bring back 1,200-yard rusher D.J. Giddens. However, they will have to revamp an offensive line that suffered key losses this offseason.
Also, a question for KSU will be how well the program handles the transition to two new coordinators. Tech fans are especially skeptical of Matt Wells as the K-State offensive coordinator given how average his offenses were in Lubbock when he was head coach.
Still, head coach Chris Klieman has earned the benefit of the doubt. He's won eight or more games in each of the last three seasons and that trend is likely to continue in 2024.
