Former Texas Tech football star lands on Sports Illustrated 50 Most Influential figures list
It could be argued that Patrick Mahomes II is the face of American sports. Thus, it is no surprise that he is one of the current athletes included on the new list of the 50 most influential figures in sports compiled by Sports Illustrated.
Mahomes is not only the most recognizable and influential player in the NFL, but he's also one of the most successful athletes in the world when it comes to his endeavors off the field. In addition to the dozens of advertising campaigns that he's involved in as a spokesperson, he is also part owner of the Kansas City Royals of Major League Baseball and several other sports entities.
Of course, he is also one of the few athletes in the world to have his own apparel brand. In fact, the Mahomes brand, associated with adidas, just launched its second signature shoe.
From the Sports Illustrated article:
"The 29-year-old QB, in addition to trying to lead the Chiefs to a third straight Super Bowl title this season, keeps busy as an entrepreneur. Mahomes holds ownership stakes in the Royals, Kansas City’s MLS and NWSL clubs, and F1 team Alpine."
Last season, Mahomes captured his third Super Bowl championship and his third NFL Super Bowl MVP award. That's tied with Joe Montana for the second-most Super Bowl MVPs in history behind Tom Brady's five.
It's been quite the success story for a player who was just the No. 389 player in the nation and a three-star recruit in the class of 2014. Now, Mahomes is one of the true American sports icons and his legend is only certain to grow as his career continues to unfold.
