How to watch Texas Tech vs. Cincinnati: Series history, game notes, and more
This weekend, the Texas Tech football team will host Cincinnati in the season's second Big 12 game for the Red Raiders. Coming off of a 30-22 win over Arizona State, head coach Joey McGuire's team is now 3-1 on the season.
Of course, so too is Cincinnati. In fact, some would suggest that the Bearcats have already come close to matching their preseason expectations in terms of victories.
However, there's reason to question just how strong Cincy's three wins this year have been. In the season opener, they took down FCS program Townson 38-20.
Then, in week two, the Bearcats lost a 21-point lead on their way to a 28-27 defeat at the hands of regional rival, Pitt. A week later, in their first road game of the year, they beat Miami (OH) 27-16.
Then, this past weekend, Cincinnati opened Big 12 play with a 34-0 win over an awful Houston team. Thus, the three teams that Cincy has beaten this season have a combined record of just 2-9.
That's why it is hard to figure out if the Bearcats are as formidable as their record suggests. Of course, if they win this week in Lubbock, it will do wonders for the perception of their program.
Needless to say, Red Raider fans will be tuned in for this Big 12 matchup as their university looks for the program's 601st career win. So let's look at all the broadcast and game info.

Texas Tech vs. Cincinnati game notes
All game notes courtesy of TexasTech.com.
- Texas Tech enters Saturday night riding a five-game winning streak at home, dating back to the 2023 season, and a 13-3 record at Jones AT&T Stadium under Joey McGuire.
- Texas Tech running back Tahj Brooks moved into the top five all-time in Texas Tech history against Arizona State as the senior reached the 100-yard mark for the 15th time in his career and the 11th time in his last 14 games. Brooks, who has rushed for at least 95 yards over that entire 14-game stretch, enters this weekend ranked second in the Big 12 and sixth in the FBS as he is averaging 126.3 yards per game. He totaled 117 rushing yards last weekend against an Arizona State defense that was allowing only 65.3 yards per game on the ground.
- Johncarlos Miller II is the only tight end in the country to have a receiving touchdown in each of his last three games. He is the first Red Raider tight end to do so since Mickey Peters during the 2002 season.
- Texas Tech will be searching for its first 2-0 start to Big 12 play since 2013 on Saturday against the Bearcats. The Red Raiders have kicked off their Big 12 slate with a 2-0 record six times previously with five of those seasons resulting in a bowl appearance. The lone exception was 1997 when the Red Raiders withdrew from postseason bowl eligibility due to NCAA violations within the program.
- Texas Tech will host its second kick of 6 p.m. or later at home this season versus Cincinnati as the Red Raiders previously opened with a 52-51 overtime victory over Abilene Christian. Night games inside Jones AT&T Stadium have become quite the scene over the past two decades as Texas Tech is 57-24 since 2000 in 6 p.m. kicks or later at home, which includes a 6-3 mark under Joey McGuire.
- McGuire’s 13-3 start in home games thus far ranks tied for second all-time for the best record among Texas Tech head coaches through 16 games. McGuire, who is tied with Steve Sloan (1975-77) at 13-3 overall, trails only E.Y. Freeland as he was 12-1-3 early in his tenure as Texas Tech’s first-ever head
coach (1925-28).
- Cincinnati follows Arizona State as Big 12 programs who are visiting Jones AT&T Stadium to start conference play. It marks only the second time since joining the Big 12 that Texas Tech has opened conference play with consecutive home games as the Red Raiders also did so in 2003, defeating both Texas A&M and Iowa State en route to an eventual 8-5 season.
