Texas Tech returns home this weekend looking to find its footing after being embarrassed by Washington State 37-16 in week two. Though Saturday's game brings a Group of 5 opponent to town in the form of North Texas, the Red Raiders are not going to have an easy time picking up their second win of the season.

So far, the Mean Green has taken on two lesser teams in South Alabama and Stephen F. Austin. They beat both of those opponents by at least 15 points.

UNT is a frightening matchup for the Red Raiders because of how they play offense. Currently, averaging 384.0 passing yards per game, the Eagles rank third in the nation in passing offense.

On the other hand, head coach Eric Morris (a Texas Tech alum) is seeing his team struggle on defense similar to what Texas Tech head coach Joey McGuire is experiencing this year. Giving up 415 yards per game, UNT ranks 111th nationally in total defense. Thus, points could be plentiful this weekend in Lubbock.

So let's check out all of the game info fans will need know for Saturday morning. And we'll start with the broadcast teams and where you can find the game on television.

Texas Tech vs. North Texas game notes

All game notes courtesy of TexasTech.com.

  • North Texas delivered the Red Raiders one of their worst losses in school history in 1988 as the Mean Green, then what is now an FCS program, handed Texas Tech a 29-24 loss at home. It remains the Red Raiders’ lone loss in their history to an FCS program as Texas Tech has won each of its last 22 contests, including its season opener against Abilene Christian already this season.
  • This weekend’s matchup will place the Red Raiders against one of their own in Texas Tech letter winner and North Texas head coach Eric Morris, who starred as an inside receiver from
2005-08 and later served on Kliff Kingsbury’s coaching staff from 2013-17. Morris is the fifth Texas Tech graduate in recent years to face his alma mater as an opposing head coach, joining Tom Wilson (Texas A&M 1978-81), Art Briles (Baylor 2008-15), Lincoln Riley (Oklahoma 2017-21) and Sonny Dykes (TCU 2022-present).
  • As a player, Morris caught 184 passes for 1,965 yards and 19 touchdowns over his four-year career as a Red Raider (2005-08), while averaging 10.1 yards a return as Texas Tech’s primary punt returner. A native of nearby Shallowater, Morris earned his bachelor’s degree in communications studies from
    Texas Tech in 2008.
  • The North Texas roster has two former Red Raiders on it in offensive linemen Landon Peterson and Larry Moore III. Peterson appeared in 35 games as a Red Raider with nine starts, while Moore saw action in only two games in 2021.
  • North Texas also has one Lubbock native on its roster in senior wide receiver Blair Conwright, who is the son of Lady Raider Basketball Ring of Honor member Carolyn Thompson. Her No. 44 jersey is one of three numbers retired in the rafters at United Supermarkets Arena along with Sheryl Swoopes and current head coach Krista (Kirkland) Gerlich.
