Texas Tech is rebuilding its secondary

In the secondary, there are massive changes due to the graduation of several key starters from 2023. Gone are Dadrion Taylor-Demerson, Tyler Owens, Malik Dunlap, and Rayshad Williams, and in their place steps a group of talented but largely unproven players.

Currently on the first team at the two safety spots are Chapman Lewis and Julien (C.J.) Baskerville. Baskerville had 78 tackles last season but Lewis, as a freshman, had only 14 in nine appearances.

At the corner spots, you will find Bralyn Lux, who was a part-time contributor last season, and Maurion Horn, a sophomore. Lux made 40 tackles a season ago with nine pass defenses. Meanwhile, Horn had only four stops last year and was credited with no pass defenses.

At the Star position, which is a hybrid safety, Baylor transfer A.J. McCarty is listed as the first team representative. He sat out last year due to NCAA transfer rules. Behind him is Brenden Jordan who, as a freshman last season, had 20 tackles while appearing in all 13 games.

Of course, this initial depth chart is going to change once fall camp arrives. What's more, several of these players will likely move positions before the season starts as the Red Raider coaching staff tries to get as much talent on the field as possible.

However, this is an interesting look at where the program's roster sits at this point in time. Now, all we have to do is slog through the summer months until football returns and we get another depth chart to obsess over.
