Texas Tech will have a rebuilt offensive line
Position | Player |
---|---|
Left Tackle | Sterling Porcher |
Left Guard | Caleb Rogers |
Center | Sheridan Wilson |
Right Guard | Davion Carter |
Right Tackle | Ty Buchanan |
Reserves | Maurice Rodriquez, Vinny Sciury, Caleb Rodkey, Caden Karr, Nick Fattig, Dalton Merryman |
This position group will be Texas Tech's biggest question mark in 2024. Questions abound about where new OL coach Clay McGuire will deploy his best five players so projecting the starting lineup here is tough.
During the spring, Ty Buchanan was repeatedly mentioned by Joey McGuire as having solidified the right tackle job. Meanwhile, at center, Sheridan Wilson started every scrimmage and drew high praise from the coaches.
The rest of the line is a jumble, though. Sterling Porcher, a transfer from Middle Tennessee, appears to be the odds-on favorite at left tackle.
Davion Carer is also the heavy favorite to start at one of the guard positions. The transfer from Memphis having made 23 starts at right guard, is an experienced option.
What to do with Caleb Rogers is the key, though. He's been a multi-year starter at each of the tackle spots but the rumors this offseason had him moving to center or guard. Will he stay on the interior where he spent the entire spring or will he bounce back to tackle?
Either way, Tech will have at most just one starter from 2023 returning at the position he played last fall. Of course, given the performance of the O-line last year, that's not necessarily a negative.
